Complementing this structure, Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in Nairobi, Panama, Amman, and Bangkok provide high-quality, demand-driven technical assistance to Country and Regional Offices.

These centres function as a single-entry point for support across policy reform, programme design, public finance, and institutional strengthening, ensuring that global standards are informed by implementation experience.

As the Division transitions from set-up to delivery, there is an increasing focus on strengthening Programme Thought Leadership and strategic engagement, both internally and externally.

This includes consolidating key intellectual products and enhancing how the Division communicates its work, influences global conversations, and engages partners.

This internship will support these priorities within the Director’s Office, offering exposure to global policy, communication, and programme delivery.

Role of the Position

As an intern at UNICEF, you will support the Global Programme Division in key areas such as:

  • Programme Development & Thought Leadership
    • Assist in developing internal research and knowledge platforms
    • Support content creation for reports, articles, and field insights
    • Help organize initiatives like staff discussions and knowledge-sharing sessions
    • Contribute to managing and coordinating ongoing projects
  • Strategic Communication & Engagement
    • Help manage external communication, including LinkedIn content
    • Support the development of newsletters and communication materials
    • Assist in improving digital presence (e.g., social media platforms)
    • Contribute to drafting key messages and reports
  • Collaboration & Coordination
    • Work with internal teams and global stakeholders
    • Support communication and engagement across UNICEF staff networks
    • Assist in organizing and managing internal initiatives.

Eligibility Criteria for the 2026 UNICEF Thought Leadership Internship

  • Meet the UNICEF eligibility requirements.
  • Be currently enrolled in or have recently completed (within the past year) a graduate or advanced degree in a relevant field such as:
    • Business
    • Economics
    • Social Sciences
    • Political Science
    • International Development
    • Communications
  • Have strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to create clear and engaging content.
  • Possess good organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrate analytical thinking and interest in global policy, development, or strategic communication
  • Have the ability to engage with different stakeholders and organize information effectively
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office tools (knowledge of digital/content platforms is a plus)

  • Have strong English language skills.
