2027 International Writers Workshop in Hong Kong
Founded in 2004, the International Writers’ Workshop has hosted more than 150 writers from over 60 countries. The 2027 residency will conclude with the IWW Literary Festival under the theme: “Inheritance”.
Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to connect their work with the festival theme
A publicly-funded university that prioritizes Creative Media and Practice, HKBU is unique
among Hong Kong universities in pursuing the research and teaching areas of Creative Writing,
Film and Screen Studies, Literary Studies, Music, Translation Theory and Practice, and Visual
Arts.
As one of the most prestigious residency programmes for writers in Asia, the IWW’s
Writers-in-Residence Programme remains a long-standing part of HKBU’s commitment to the
literary arts.
Summary of the 2027 International Writers Workshop

- Program Dates: 26 February to 25 March 2027

The Program Covers:
- Return Airfare Tickets
- Accommodation
- Stipend/Day
Programme Requirements:
- Attend the entire residency from 26 February 2027 – 25 March 2027
- Attend the Welcome Ceremony during the first week
- Participate in the Literary Festival during the final week.
- Writers are encouraged to share a piece of writing in conversation with the Literary Festival’s theme.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants from around the world can apply.
- Have at least one published book.
- Currently residing outside of Hong Kong.
- Command of English or Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese)
- Attend the welcome ceremony during the first week.

Application Guidelines for the 2027 International Writers Workshop
- A 1-page, single-spaced Artist’s Statement in English or Chinese describing your work
and your writing goals for the IWW Writers-in-Residence Programme. - If your statement is composed in Chinese, please provide a 1-paragraph summary in English;
- 10-12 pages of recent work, such as creative nonfiction, digital writing, drama, fiction, graphic forms, libretti, or poetry.
- Please provide an English or a Chinese translation of your work if your original work is not in English nor Chinese;
- A CV or resume
- Contact information, including the e-mail addresses, of two referees; and
- All application materials should be in 12-point type with 1-inch margins.

2026. Applicants will be notified of the results by November 2026.
