Role Description
- Auckland Council Healthy Waters are looking for a small student team to explore how Auckland Council flood resilience messages could work on modern social platforms and better reach younger audiences.
- Auckland Council already engages Aucklanders through traditional channels such as websites, news portals and Facebook, but there is an opportunity to test what could work through more contemporary formats (think TikTok-style reels and short‑form video).
- This project encourages blue‑sky thinking, while remaining mindful of public trust and reputational considerations.
- This virtual internship is an unpaid, short‑term experiential learning opportunity designed to complement your academic studies.
- It provides practical exposure to real‑world challenges, mentoring from industry professionals, and the chance to apply marketing theory in a public sector context.
- The programme does not constitute paid employment or guarantee future work with Auckland Council.
What you’ll do
As part of this virtual internship project , you’ll:
- Familiarise yourself with Auckland Council’s ‘Get Prepared’ flood messaging and content via the Auckland Council Flood Viewer.
- Create a short social media reel or video focused on flood resilience or flood risk reduction, with the potential to engage a younger audience.
- Explore how Auckland Council messaging can translate into modern social media formats, balancing creativity with alignment to public sector expectations.
How the programme works
- If selected, you’ll join a small team of students working collaboratively on a real Auckland Council brief over your inter-semester break*.
- You’ll be introduced to the project and programme expectations through an initial briefing with Auckland Council.
- You’ll receive regular guidance and feedback from a dedicated Auckland Council mentor throughout the project.
- At the end of the programme, you’ll present your ideas and recommendations to Auckland Council stakeholders.
Who Can Apply (Eligibility)
To be eligible for this project, you must be:
- Studying at a New Zealand-based tertiary institution and enrolled in a Commerce degree, majoring in Marketing.
- Currently enrolled in, or have completed, at least one 200‑level Marketing paper
- In your penultimate year of study
