If you have a flair for writing stories, essays, or personal reflections that capture the heartbeat of Africa, then the Meraki Afrique Writing Competition 2025 is the perfect platform for you.

About the Meraki Afrique Writing Competition

Meraki Afrique is a youth-driven storytelling platform committed to amplifying authentic African voices and showcasing narratives that matter. Supported by German Cooperation (GIZ), the initiative seeks to promote creativity, dialogue, and cultural exchange among young Africans.

Through this competition, Meraki Afrique encourages you to explore topics that define our generation, share experiences that unite us, and celebrate the beauty of our diversity.

If you’ve ever felt the urge to tell your own African story — this is your moment.

Who Can Apply?

This competition is open to:

  • High school students

You can apply from any African country, whether you’re studying at home or abroad. Both Nigerian and non-Nigerian participants are warmly invited to submit their essays.

2025 Theme: “No Visa, No Problem? Youth Perspectives on Intra-Africa Mobility.”

This year’s theme invites young Africans to explore youth migration within Africa — the journeys, dreams, and challenges that come with moving across borders on the same continent.

You can write from a personal, fictional, or analytical perspective. Tell your story. Share your view. Spark a conversation.
