Tobams Group is currently recruiting a Remote Backend Developer Intern to join its engineering team.

This internship is designed for aspiring backend developers who are eager to gain hands-on industry experience while working on real software products and AI-powered solutions.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced engineers, product managers, designers, and AI specialists to build scalable backend services, RESTful APIs, databases, and intelligent applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in designing and building scalable backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Support the maintenance and improvement of existing backend systems.
• Collaborate with AI/ML engineers to integrate machine learning models into production.
• Develop backend logic for gamification features such as points systems, leaderboards, badges, rewards, challenges, and progress tracking.
• Work closely with frontend developers, product managers, and designers.
• Write clean, testable, and maintainable code.
• Assist with database design, optimization, and maintenance using MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
• Support debugging, performance optimization, and application monitoring.
• Contribute to API and technical documentation.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, sprint meetings, and deployment activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Basic to intermediate proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Foundational knowledge of Node.js (NestJS or Express.js).
• Understanding of RESTful API principles.
• Familiarity with MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
• Basic understanding of authentication and authorization (JWT, OAuth2).
• Familiarity with Git and version control workflows.
• Understanding of backend architecture fundamentals and microservices.
• Basic exposure to Docker or cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is an advantage.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to learn, adapt, and work in a fast-paced remote team.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Knowledge of Python.
• Experience with RabbitMQ or Kafka.
• Exposure to DevOps practices and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Familiarity with event-driven systems and webhook handling.
• Experience with AI/ML integration and MLOps.
