The Position

  • Our Global Internship Programme in Innovation & Sustainability (#IP2TIS) offers a unique opportunity for passionate individuals to gain hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical industry while making a positive impact on the world.
  • Are you ready to join a global network spanning 20+ countries, where bright minds collaborate to tackle real-world challenges in Innovation & Sustainability?
  • Do you want to work on impactful projects, shape the future, and drive change from within?
  • You will contribute to a pilot project supporting cervical cancer elimination efforts in Nigeria by helping integrate HPV testing into existing HIV laboratory workspaces.
  • The project aims to strengthen secondary prevention through efficient clinical-to-laboratory workflows, improved provider training, reliable testing operations, and timely result delivery for clinical intervention.
  • Within your first 3 months, you are expected to support provider training on sample collection protocols, monitor workflow integration and data tracking across the pilot, document operational challenges and success stories, and contribute to the assessment of how existing molecular infrastructure can support long-term health resilience.
  • Your work will help improve access to screening services, optimize the use of existing resources, and support a more sustainable and scalable approach to cervical cancer prevention.
  • This internship offers a rare opportunity to contribute to a nationally relevant health initiative while gaining hands-on experience in laboratory operations, stakeholder coordination, and healthcare system strengthening.

The Opportunity:

  • Support hands-on training for field staff on standardized cervical sample collection and preservation techniques
  • Help map and monitor collection and transport workflows to ensure samples arrive within required time and temperature conditions
  • Assist in overseeing the laboratory workflow from sample reception through testing and result dispatch while maintaining quality standards
  • Support reagent and consumable tracking and help coordinate with service teams to address equipment downtime
  • Track the pilot journey from testing through result delivery to support timely clinical intervention
  • Contribute to documenting real-world implementation challenges and success stories for future scale-up
  • Assist in aligning communication between field clinicians, laboratory scientists, market access colleagues, and health officials
  • Analyze how existing HIV laboratory infrastructure can be leveraged to improve operational efficiency and long-term health resilience

Who You Are:

  • You are enrolled or have completed your Bachelor’s studies at a university, preferably in the field of Medical Laboratory Science, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Microbiology, or Biological Sciences within the last 12 months and are interested in applying your knowledge in a modern working environment as part of an internship of at least 3 months.

Furthermore you are:

  • Familiar with molecular laboratory techniques such as sample accessioning, DNA extraction, and automated testing workflows
  • Knowledgeable about specimen handling, sample stability, and logistics requirements for biological materials
  • Comfortable working with inventory tracking and operational data, ideally using Excel-based stock management or laboratory systems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and interested in result validation, workflow monitoring, and reporting
  • A coachable, proactive, detail-oriented communicator with strong English skills.
