SEDarc Studentship Programme 2027

Job Description
Applications are open for the SEDarc Studentship Programme 2027, which supports funded doctoral study in the social sciences at six partner universities in the United Kingdom. The programme is open to eligible UK and international applicants seeking to begin a PhD in September 2027.
Successful applicants receive an ESRC-funded studentship covering UK home-rate tuition fees and providing a stipend, alongside doctoral training, professional development and a funded placement.
About South East Doctoral Training Arc (SEDarc)
The South East Doctoral Training Arc (SEDarc) is a partnership of six UK universities funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
SEDarc provides postgraduate research training in the social sciences through challenge-led, collaborative and interdisciplinary doctoral programmes. Its research and training activities connect doctoral researchers with academic, policy, business and third-sector environments.
About The SEDarc Studentship Programme 2027
The programme offers up to 39 ESRC-funded studentships each year, subject to confirmation of allocations following the ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership mid-term review. Applicants must first be nominated by one of the six SEDarc partner institutions, and each university determines its own internal application process and deadline before nominations are submitted to SEDarc.
Applicants may submit only one application for a SEDarc studentship. The final SEDarc deadline is 29 January 2027 at 16:00 GMT.
The standard funded PhD structure lasts at least 3.25 years and includes up to a three-month placement. An integrated Master’s-plus-PhD award may last up to 4.25 years, including the placement period.
