The University of Melbourne is offering the Graduate Research Scholarships for domestic and international students who want to pursue a Masters by Research or PhD at the university.
This scholarship is for high-achieving students who are applying for, or already enrolled in, a graduate research degree at the University of Melbourne.
About the Scholarship
The Graduate Research Scholarships include the Melbourne Research Scholarship and the Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship.
The good thing is that new students do not need to submit a separate scholarship application. Once you apply for an eligible graduate research course at the University of Melbourne before the course deadline, you will be automatically considered for the scholarship.
Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship provides strong financial support, including:
- 100% tuition fee remission
- Living allowance of $39,500 per year
- Total scholarship value of up to $135,000
- Relocation grant of $2,000 for students moving from other Australian states or territories
- Relocation grant of $3,000 for students moving from outside Australia
- Overseas Student Health Cover for international students who need a student visa
- Paid sick, maternity, and parenting leave, where applicable
Scholarship Duration
- Up to 2 years for Masters by Research students
- Up to 4 years fee offset for doctoral students
- Up to 3.5 years living allowance for doctoral students

How to Apply
For new students, no separate scholarship application is required.
To be considered:
- Apply for an eligible graduate research course at the University of Melbourne before the course application deadline.
- If eligible, you will automatically be considered for the scholarship.
- You should receive a notification within 10 business days that a scholarship application has been added to your record.
Current students or students who deferred admission may need to submit an online scholarship application by 31 October to be considered for the following year.
