University of Toledo Graduate Scholarship Details

The Streby Lab is seeking an outstanding PhD student to conduct dissertation research under a new grant focused on nocturnal migrant songbird movements and habitat selection, particularly in response to experimental changes in anthropogenic light.

The selected candidate will join a diverse, supportive, and research-active graduate program within the Department of Environmental Sciences, College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

The Streby Lab conducts research in population ecology, animal movement ecology, and evolutionary biology, aiming to produce science that supports biodiversity conservation, resource management, and deeper understanding of animal behavioral evolution.

Requirements for the University of Toledo Graduate Scholarship 2026

Applicants must:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree, and preferably a Master’s degree, in Ecology or a related field.
  • Demonstrate strong interest in animal behavior and enthusiasm for fieldwork, data processing, analysis, and scientific communication.
  • Exhibit determination, curiosity, and a healthy level of scientific skepticism.
  • Have experience analyzing avian nocturnal migration using NEXRAD weather radar systems (preferred).
  • Have experience identifying (by sight and sound), capturing, handling, and banding bird species of eastern North America (preferred).
