ADB-JSP – Asian Development Bank Japan Scholarship Program 2026

The ADB-JSP Scholarship aims to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) developing member countries to pursue graduate studies in development-related fields of the Asia Pacific region.

APU was selected as a designated institution by ADB in 2010 and will provide this scholarship each year to a few eligible GSA applicants (excluding IMAT program applicants).

Requirements for the Asian Development Bank Japan Scholarship Program 2026

To be considered for the ADB Scholarship at APU University, you must meet the requirements listed below.

  • Be a citizen of an ADB member country and a Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA) eligible country.
  • Not holding dual citizenship of any developed country.
  • Currently reside and work in their home country.
  • Have at least two years of full-time work experience after obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written English communication skills.
  • Be 35 years old or younger at the time of application.
  • Not currently enrolled in a graduate degree program.
  • In principle, not have a bachelor’s or master’s degree obtained outside of their home country.
  • Not pursuing a second master’s degree.
  • Have a family income that does not exceed US$50,000 per year and an individual income that does not exceed US$25,000 per year. If selected, applicants must submit a Certificate of Income.

The ADB Scholarship Covers:

  • Full Tuition
  • Living Expenses: Approximately 144,000 JPY per month
  • Study Materials and Research Allowance
  • Medical Insurance
  • Economy Class Airfare (Round-trip).

Step by step 🪜 Application Process for the Asian Development Bank Japan Scholarship Program 2026

Follow these steps:

  • Applicants must first apply to the APU via the online application system. APU is accepting applications for all graduate programs for the 2026 intake.
  • Request for this scholarship within the APU Online Application.
  • Submit your application by 9th January 2026.
  • Along with their application, applicants must upload a Certificate of Employment issued by their current employer/company.
  • If the current employment duration is less than two years, a Certificate of Employment from the previous employer must also be submitted.
  • Both certificates should clearly state the start and end dates of employment, as well as the monthly or annual income.
  • Alternatively, the latest Income Tax Return can be submitted to verify the applicant’s annual or monthly salary.
  • APU will send the list of shortlisted applicants to the ADB Scholarship Committee. The final scholarship award results are decided by ADB-JSP.
