Job Summary

The Workshop Engineer will support the Workshop Supervisor in all technical and quality-related aspects of repair, servicing, maintenance, and inspection activities. The position forms part of PED’s long-term strategy to strengthen local engineering capacity and develop future Workshop Supervisors and Workshop Managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Workshop Supervisor in all technical and quality-related aspects of repair, servicing, and maintenance activities within the assigned workshop or equipment group.
  • Review work orders and determine appropriate repair methods, tools, and materials to ensure technically sound and efficient execution.
  • Provide engineering support for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and the identification of alternative technical solutions or temporary repairs when standard parts or methods are unavailable.
  • Conduct or support in-process and final inspections of completed work, ensuring that repair quality, functionality, and safety requirements are met before equipment is released.
  • Verify that test runs and functional checks are carried out safely by authorized and appropriately licensed personnel.
  • Accurately document inspection results, measurements, and quality findings in the Equipment Programme or other designated records.

Requirements

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in maintenance, repairs, fleet management, or engineering support within PED.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and/or hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, engineering diagrams, and workshop documentation.
  • Good diagnostic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, integrity, and safety awareness.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to guide and support others.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced workshop environment.
