The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, was established in 1980 as a Federal University of Technology, alongside other sister universities in Akure, Minna, Owerri, and Yola.
In 1988, it was renamed Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, in honour of Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
Despite the change of name, the institution continues to uphold its mandate as a University of Technology, focused on advancing science, engineering, and technological innovation.
Strategically located in the North-Eastern region of Nigeria, ATBU is dedicated to providing high-quality education, fostering cutting-edge research, and developing professionals equipped to drive national and global development.

Position Requirements
Senior Lecturer (CONUASS/CONMESS 05)
- PhD in a relevant discipline or Final Professional Postgraduate qualifications in Medicine (FWACS, FMCP, FMCPath, FWACP, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 12 years cognate experience with evidence of academic and research excellence.
Lecturer I (CONUASS/CONMESS 04)
- Master’s Degree in relevant discipline or Final Professional Postgraduate qualifications in Medicine from a recognized institution.
- At least 4 publications in reputable journals and 9 years cognate experience.
Lecturer II (CONUASS/CONMESS 03)
- Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized University with at least 2 publications in reputable journals and 6 years cognate experience,
OR
A fresh PhD holder in a relevant field / MBBS or MDS with evidence of professional registration.
Assistant Lecturer (CONUASS/CONMESS 02)
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field from a recognized University.
- Evidence of NYSC completion and, for medical sciences, requisite professional registration is mandatory.
Laboratory Technologist I (CONTISS 08)
- Degree or HND in a relevant discipline from a recognized Institution.
- Minimum of 3 years cognate experience, NYSC certificate, ICT proficiency, and professional registration.
Laboratory Technologist II (CONTISS 07)
- Degree or HND in a relevant discipline from a recognized Institution.
- NYSC certificate and ICT proficiency are required.
