Job Purpose

The Territory Sales Manager plays a key role in driving business growth by collaborating with distributors and their sales teams to deliver agreed sales and marketing objectives within an assigned territory.

The ideal candidate must be a motivational leader who can influence, inspire, and drive team performance — even without direct management authority over distributor staff.

Context / Scope

This role is a critical contributor to the success of the PZ Cussons Commercial Strategic Plan, supporting the development of a flexible, high-performing field sales force that delivers both volume growth and brand-building excellence.

The Territory Sales Manager will demonstrate industry leadership, effective planning, and agile execution to ensure our brands remain visible, accessible, and competitive in key markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve all agreed business objectives and KPIs within the assigned territory (Sell-out, Focus Brands, New Product Development, Promotions, and POP deployment).
  • Implement the outlet coverage strategy, ensuring up-to-date databases of active and potential outlets.
  • Deliver excellence in the sales drivers – Quality, Distribution, Visibility, and Price/Promotion.
  • Supervise and review the performance of Secondary Sales Force (Van Sales Reps and Open Market Reps).
  • Work closely with the Area Sales Manager to develop and execute Joint Business Plans for key customers.
  • Oversee the execution of promotions, launches, and trade marketing activities within the territory.
  • Conduct ongoing market intelligence and competitor analysis to identify trends and opportunities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of sales performance, market insights, and operational challenges.

Measurement / Performance Indicators

  • Target vs Actual Performance: Achievement of monthly and annual sales and KPI targets.
  • Trade and Marketing Execution: Quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of field marketing initiatives.
  • Territory Coverage: Implementation and maintenance of coverage plans.
  • Sales Drivers: Achievement of goals across Quality, Distribution, Visibility, and Price/Promotion.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Qualifications

  • First Degree in any discipline from a recognized institution.
  • Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in marketing or sales, with a proven track record of delivering business KPIs.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the PZ Cussons Way of Selling, focusing on Sales Driver execution at the point of purchase (QDVP), outlet segmentation, and relationship management.
  • Hands-on experience in persuasive selling, structured call management, and brand advocacy.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Deep understanding of business objectives and priorities.
  • Excellent knowledge of Field Sales Management and Market Intelligence.
  • Skilled in building and maintaining strong customer relationships.
  • Valid driver’s license with experience navigating sales territories.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills.

Internal & External Relationships

  • Internal: Area Sales Manager, Marketing, Channel, Supply Chain, Finance, and HR teams.
  • External: Distributors, Customers, Trade Partners, and Marketing Agencies.
